COVENANTS Part I
THE POPULAR ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BIBLE PROPHECY
COVENANTS
GOD’S RELATIONSHIPS WITH MAN IS always mediated through one or more of the biblical covenants. God made six distinct Covenants with promises: (1.) the Noahic Covenant ( Genesis 6:18; 9:8-17 ), (2) the Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 15:1-21; 17:1-22; 26:2-5,24; 28:13-17), (3)the Mosaic Covenants( Exodus 19-20, 24), (4) the priestly Covenant(Number 25:10-13), (5)the Davidic Covenant( 2 Samuel 7:12-16), and (6) the New Covenant(Jeremiah 31:31-34). Five are unconditional, irrevocable, everlasting, and by grace; only the Mosaic Covenant was conditional, revocable, temporary, and by works.
The Bible never mentions a Covenant of grace or Covenant of redemption; nor does Scriptures address the so-called Edenic and Adamic covenants as “covenants” in the over 280 uses of “covenant” in the Old Testament and over 30 appearances in the New Testament. ( See the article ” Dispensations” for an explanation of the “Covenant” aspects of what God promised prior to Noah. ) God has contracted to perform certain things in history, and prophecy focuses on how and when God will fulfill these promises.
